The new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 have been unveiled, bringing several key upgrades to the table. The Apple Watch Series 12 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes, while the Ultra 4 retains its larger and more rugged design. Both watches feature upgraded heart rate sensors that can take measurements every five seconds.

Health tracking is a major highlight of this generation, with Apple introducing a new Readiness score. This score rates how prepared the user is for physical activity on a scale from 0 to 10, taking several factors into account. Another new feature is Health Age, which estimates how the user’s health compares with their actual age based on metrics such as VO₂ max, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and sleep.

The Apple Watch Series 12 also gets new finishes, including aluminum, titanium, and ceramic versions. Apple’s new Ceramic Shield 2 glass is 60% tougher than the Ion-X glass used previously. Additionally, the microphone has been given more uses, with the new Audio Intelligence features able to recognize important sounds and alert users with hearing difficulties.

Other smaller additions include better Siri summaries and Shazam integration. The Apple Watch Series 12 remains rated for up to 24 hours of normal use, but outdoor workout battery life increases to 10 hours. The new case finishes and Apple Watch bands are available, with sales beginning on September 18.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 Upgrades

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 gets a more noticeable hardware upgrade when it comes to battery life, with Apple rating it for up to 50 hours of normal use. This is compared to 42 hours for the Ultra 3. Low Power Mode can push that figure to 84 hours. The Ultra 4 uses Grade 5 titanium and comes in Natural Titanium and Black Titanium.

Apple is also introducing new colors for its Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean Band. The Ultra 4 starts at $799/€899, while the Series 12 starts at $399/€449. While the new watches aren’t a huge redesign, Apple has made several useful changes under the hood, with the Apple Watch Ultra 4 standing out with its longer battery life and the Apple Watch Series 12 focusing more on health tracking and updated sensors.

In terms of overall upgrades, the new Apple Watch models bring significant improvements to health tracking and battery life. The Readiness score and Health Age features provide users with more insight into their physical health, while the longer battery life of the Ultra 4 makes it a more viable option for extended use.

The pricing of the new Apple Watch models is also notable, with the Series 12 starting at $399/€449 and the Ultra 4 starting at $799/€899. The new watches will be available for sale on September 18, with pre-orders likely to begin soon.
