macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 27 launched today as free updates for compatible devices, introducing features that mirror those in iOS 27.
The new AI assistant debuts in English, with a Spanish version scheduled for October.
The desktop system enhances the Liquid Glass design, adding a slider to adjust its transparency. Icons have been updated, menus simplified, and Mission Control and Spaces feature smoother animations.
The AI assistant resides in its own app, maintains conversation history, and operates through Spotlight. Users can select text, images, or files and query the assistant about them. This functionality is available on Apple Silicon Macs and the new MacBook Neo.
Safari now automatically organizes tabs by topic and monitors pages for price changes or restocks. iPhone Mirroring allows window resizing and aspect ratio adjustments.
This update marks the final macOS version supporting Rosetta, meaning Intel-only apps will no longer function after future updates.
On tablets, the menu bar remains visible, and the status bar displays the active app’s name. Window management is improved, file navigation is faster, and iPhone apps can be resized.
Spotlight integrates the AI assistant, while Photos, Messages, Notes, Calendar, and Safari receive new features. Screen Time and parental controls have also been revamped.
The iPad update excludes the third-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, first-generation 11-inch iPad Pro, eighth-generation iPad, iPad mini 5, and iPad Air 3.
Compared to earlier OS cycles, the unified AI experience across desktop, tablet, and watch platforms highlights Apple’s effort to integrate intelligence into core workflows, a trend that began with previous voice-assistant features.
The watch system introduces a dedicated AI assistant app and a streamlined Search experience, with conversations syncing via iCloud. Additional features include a dynamic app grid, a new Siri Modular watch face, health-tracking improvements, and battery-saving tips.
Walkie-Talkie has been removed, and the double-click action on the digital crown has been modified. Installation requires iOS 27, and the watch OS runs on Series 9 or later, Ultra 2 or later, and the third-generation SE.
Apple confirms that the updates are available at no cost through the Settings app on each device.
